The Garden

This year I am making my first attempt at a large scale vegetable garden. I tilled my garden in middle of March. I planted spinach, radishes, carrots, potatoes, red onion, white onion, garlic and shallots. The spinach and radishes were the first things to come up in late March. They both are going like gangbusters now. I had to thin through them this weekend.

I was working in the garden this weekend and noticed that a couple of the potatoes are starting to peek through. I was worried about the potatoes because I had gone a little over three weeks from planting and wasn't seeing anything. Probably won't get all the potatoes, but a few at least.

The white onions, shallots and garlic I planted from starts and they are about 6-8 inches tall now. The red onions I planted from seed and are just now a couple of inches tall.

Some evening this week I will re-till the unplanted part of my garden. I will start setting up my trellaces for cucmbers and green beens. Hopefully will be planting tomatoes, peppers, corn, squash, zucchini, and musk melon towards later April early May.

Update 4/10/2008 This rain and cooler weather is slow down my garden. I think most of my potatoes are going to rot in the ground. This last week when we had a few warm days I saw a couple of potatoes poking up through the dirt, but they have had no growth in the last few days. Looks like we are going to get another light freee this weekend.

Update 4/14/2008
Well, the rain and cold have really slowed down my garden. Radishes are loving this weather, but my carrots and potatoes are not. I have four potatoe plants that have popped through but the freeze we had last night browned them pretty good. We'll see if they recover. A week or so of nice warm weather should really help things. If we can keep it warm like the Farmers Almanac predicts then we should start harvesting radishes and spinachin a couple of weeks.

Poker

Everyone that knows me knows I love to play poker as one of my hobbies. So, I thought I would create a post about my poker experiences. Some of you may not be real interested, but it is what is going on in my life. I play in a regular thruday night game with a bunch of friends and this may give them the oppurtunity to vent about me beating the daylights out of them. :)

Tuesday night (April 1) I went out to our local casino here in Bartlesville and played in a small tournament. It was a straight Hold'em tournament with no add-ons and no rebuys. I don't like playing with add-ons or rebuys for big money becuase people seem to just go stupid with their play when the know they can rebuy. So they play stupid trying to get lucky and get a lot of chips. Well anyway, I played well and ended up eighth out of forty. I felt I played pretty well and I took a beat with 10-10 on the big blind. There were four limpers at 500/1,000 blinds including the small blind. I raised the bet to 4,500 (I know Vic, I was giving value to high suited connectors. But I had established a table image of being a tight aggressive player and showed that I had the best cards every time I drug a pot and I knew with my table I could have gone all in and not bet out the Ace.) I got one call from a lady I played with before and have tells on. The flop come A-5-7 with two spaids. I bet out another 4,500 thinking she was only able to call with either a nut flush draw or an ace in the hole. She called and I picked up her tell so I knew she had the ace. Next card on the board blanks so I check, she bets 2,000 at me and I laughed out loud as I folded my 10-10 face up and told her I wasn't stupid. From there I played UBER tight and limped from 21st place to 8th.

Grandbaby on the way

Deanna's daughter, Ashlei, will have a baby soon! We are so excited. Deanna is going to be a granny! We are having a small baby shower for her this weekend. I have a special present for her. I will post more on that later. Don't want to ruin the suprise.

The baby's name will be Lillie. I think that is how Ashlei has decided to spell it today. LOL. She will let me know if it is wrong I am sure. I think I want Lillie to call me "Pappie."

I will definately keep you updated on this one.

Update 4/14/2008 Well things are moving along. I don't think Ashlei is going to make it to her May 1 due date. We had her Baby Shower last weekend. Thanks so much to Mom and Dad and Larissa for helping out with that. It means alot to me that they are willing to do that. The baby's room is all done. Her re-done dresser is in, the crib is up, and the walls are painted. All we need now is a baby. :)

The new Jeep

I have recently bought a 1978 Jeep CJ7. It is awesome! I love it and I love driving it. I bought it as my running around having fun vehicle. When summer comes around I will take the top off and the doors off and head to the lake with Deanna.

Unfortunately, the Jeep is in the shop right now. Looks like the clutch is out. Rich was pal and was a huge help in trying to replace the clutch this past weekend. But to no avail. Still out of commision and I called the auto shop today to try and get the Jeep in to be fixed soon.

I will post pictures of it in a couple of days. Everyone needs to help me think of a name for her. Post comments with your suggestions.

Tell me what's up with you

I want to hear what is going on in your life as well as telling you what is happening in my life. So make a comment and let me know what's up! Thanks

Getting started

Well here is my first post to my new blog. I don't know how popular this will be, but I think I need to do a better job communicating with the family, friends, and people in my life. Of course since I am an IT Geek, this seemed a perfect choice. Please take time to look around, let me know what is going on in your life and get to know others in my life as well.
